Poems On The Trams

We were recently commissioned by imove, Yorkshire’s cultural olympiad programme to run a new literature project called ‘Poems On The Trams’. Funded by Legacy Trust and supported by the Arts Council.  We commissioned five South Yorkshire poets to come up with new work themed around the cultural olympiads key theme of human movement. Poems from Charlotte Ansell, Helen Mort, Ben Wilkinson, James Lock and Sally Goldmsith were published on advertising boards across the Sheffield Tram network.

The aim of the project was to encourage an appreciation of poetry and reach new audiences who wouldn’t necessarily take part in other literature activities . We felt that the medium of a tram journey is the perfect place for a bit of quiet contemplation, and the project ran for a full month with an estimated potential audience of over 100,000 people. We were also interviewed by BBC Radio Sheffield about the project on the 21st August. You can read the poems on the trams in September’s issue of Now Then Magazine here;
