The Red Deer is a cozy hove of a pub located on Pitt St, just off West St, somewhat irreverently within a barrel role of the centre for the blind. To be honest, it’s a welcome relief from the anonymous hustle and bustle of the busier high street chain bars, and in that simple sense of an unburdening, of a welcoming, lies its appeal.
The Red Deer has a wide range of hand-pulled beers, as befits the modern craft ale pub. On any given week they will have four Yorkshire beers from local breweries available, as well as a couple of national beers, a real cider and four regulars. This array of choice cannot be matched within the city centre and it is for this reason that so many people head to the Red Deer at the weekend and in the evening after work. You’ll also find it a popular haunt with the occasional University professor or ten. Seminar in the Red Deer anyone? Those were the days!
In terms of entertainment, the Red Deer is not to be overlooked, with its popular Tuesday night quiz – amusingly titled The InQuizition – as well as its regular Sunday night movie nights upstairs in the function room. On most Saturdays the pub will also host a live band or two to keep you entertained while you work your way through the bar.
For those of you recovering from the ill effects of the night before, or those seeking decent pub grub in a traditional setting, the Red Deer also caters for this universal need. All food is made fresh on site on the day and is affordably priced. The result is quality and reputation to boot.
