CAST. Sheffield

What is CAST and who are the people behind it ?

CAST is a brand new craft and social event. We’ll be giving people the opportunity to create entirely unique, bespoke jewellery pieces in some of the best venues that Sheffield has to offer. CAST was founded and is run by me (James Cottingham) and Joe Jackson. We both live in Sheffield and work out of our studio – where we turn sketches and ideas into shiny silver reality.

What can people expect at a CAST event ?

People can expect to have a whole lotta fun! CAST events are about being creative alongside great people and within a great venue. The concept is simple – we give you a wax ring mould, and your job is to do the carving / creative genius part. Once carved – we take the waxes away, cast them (see what we did there) and finish each piece by hand in our studio. Your ring is then packaged and delivered within two weeks. On top of that, our nights will feature fantastic food and drink. For our first event at Tamper, the chefs have created a mouth-watering menu, from which a starter, main and drink on arrival are included in the ticket price. You’re guaranteed to have a great night – and create something amazing whilst doing so.

Which materials do you use to make the jewellery and why ?

You’ll work with a wax ring mould and a carving blade on the night. The waxes can be carved into almost any design you can think of. We then cast the rings in solid 925 Silver (or solid Gold if you’re feeling fancy). We work with silver and gold because the end product looks stunning. The wax allows people to be as creative as they please and it means that every piece is different – which makes the finishing process so worthwhile.
