Funk Fest 2018 // 25-26 August // Abbeydale Brewery

It’s time to get funky with Abbeydale Brewery this August Bank Holiday as they throw open their doors for a summertime celebration of wild and mixed fermentation beers. There’s always room for a new beer festival in Sheff and this time you can get your real ale groove on at Funk Fest.

The dates for your diary are the 25th and 26th of August and depending on your preferred time for ale enjoyment, there are afternoon and evening sessions to choose from. The weekend will showcase Abbeydale’s very own Funk Dungeon project but will also play host to a variety of breweries from around the UK and Ireland who are famous within the brewing world for their love of experimentation. Breweries that’ll be putting in an appearance over the weekend include Chorlton Brewing Company, Yeastie Boys and Fyne Ales’ Origins Project. You can look forward to 30 rotating lines of fantastic sour and mixed fermentation beers, which will include some festival-only exclusives you definitely won’t want to miss out on.

Talking about the upcoming two-day Funk Fest, Jim Rangeley – Lead Brewer of the Funk Dungeon said, “Over the past couple of years, our passion for ageing beer with wild yeast and bacteria has grown, along with the number of beers in our cellar – the affectionately named Funk Dungeon. We feel that now is the perfect time to showcase not just some of our sour and mixed fermentation beers, of which we’re very proud, but also those from other great producers of this type of beer from around the UK, many of whom are good friends of ours. To my knowledge, this is the first event of its kind to take place in the UK outside of London, so it really is something special.”

During the weekend you’ll also be able to visit the brewery, take a tour with the team and soak up the ale with delicious street food from Sunshine Deli and The Rising Sun kitchen. While the musical element of the weekend will see local DJs playing the best funk and soul tunes all day and into the night.

£7 Early Bird tickets are now available from Party for the People at bit.ly/funkfest18 until 23rd July, which includes entry and an exclusive festival glass. We’ll see you at the bar.
