Opus Acoustics: The Last of the Weekly Series… (and the start of something new…)

First things first, to address the subject line of this post. We’ve taken the decision to draw to a close for the time being the weekly shows at the Riverside. We feel immensely proud of the artists and support we’ve had over the best part of 2 yrs putting on these show, so thanks for attending or playing. Good times.

Obviously no need to get emotional as the good news is that Opus Acoustic has been plotting something special to raise the bar even higher. And thus we’ve been programming a spring season of monthly shows at the lovely and intimate Lantern Theatre in Nether Edge, a smattering of shows across the city and of course the odd knees up back at the Riverside. More on this and the programme soon.

But back to the Weekly Series. We have 3 remaining shows before Christmas, including our Christmas Party at the Riverside on Thursday 20th Dec. They all promise to be tip top and it would be lovely to see you all down there.

Part 1 – Thursday 6th Dec – At the riverside (free entry)

CAPTIVES ON THE CAROUSEL

Needing little introduction, Captives On The Carousel are Sarah Morrey and Ben Eckersley. They play folk originals on cello and guitar, telling stories of enchantment and dark goings on… Sarah’s poetic lyrics combined with Ben’s haunting strings draw you into a world of mystery and magic.

“Fingerpicked poetry… mournful cello… impressive compositions.” – Now Then

“Like reading a fairy tale … good and evil at their purest, a battle between memories and oblivion where the light of hope remains.” – Sloucher.org

Every musician in Manchester knows Richard: he is one of the most fondly revered performers on the UK folk circuit and Debt Records is making it their business to bring his work to a wider audience (whether he likes it or not).

Its with great pleasure to welcome him back at Opus Acoustics, complete with “chaps”, who are a talented group of performers from several of the best bands we ve had over from Manchester in the last 2 years.
