Professor Lenny Koh, BEng (Hons), PhD, FRSA, is a Chair Professor in Operations Management, Founders and Directors of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) Research Centre at the Management School & the Faculty’s Centre for Energy, Environment and Sustainability (CEES), at The University of Sheffield. She’ll be on the panel at the event – How Could Emergency Climate Change Action Benefit Sheffield? on 7 June. We chatted to Lenny to find out more about her work and research.
You’ll be on the panel at the Festival of Debate event on 7 June which will discuss how emergency climate action could benefit Sheffield. In what ways do you think emergency climate action could benefit Sheffield?
Yes, I look forward to my panel debate at Festival of Debate on the 7 June. Emergency climate action could raise awareness, and actively promote and act as an advocate to inform the public, policy makers and industry of the risk of unsustainable operations and actions, and it could inform what we can do to make our resources more efficient and more sustainable, especially by exploiting the innovation from Sheffield.
Your research has focused on supply chain resource modelling. Broadly speaking, what can businesses do in relation to their supply chain to achieve environmental improvements and reduce their carbon footprints?
Businesses can adopt my Cloud-based software, namely SCEnAT suites (Supply Chain Environmental Analysis Tool), to help them diagnose the sustainability performance of their supply chains, achieve environmental improvements, reduce carbon footprints, minimise waste, improve resource efficiency and economic gains, and increase competitive advantages.
What do you think is the key to persuading large businesses to change their operations to reduce C02 emissions?
From my experience through interactions with users and benefactors of SCEnAT suites and my research, some of the key persuasions include regulatory compliance, market competition, industry requirement, standards and certifications requirement, shareholder value, saving money, reducing carbon tax, improving resource efficiency, reducing energy cost, winning contracts and awards, access to certain market, climate change and sustainability.
Can you tell us about The Supply Chain Environmental Analysis Tool (SCEnAT)?
SCEnAT suites (Supply Chain Environmental Analysis Tool) are a decision support system on the Cloud. SCEnAT suites are powered by Microsoft Azure Cloud Technology, the most advanced and secured platform.
SCEnAT suites map, calculate, intervene, evaluate and decide using supply chain life cycle assessment and input-output analysis methodology.
We offer SCEnAT suites as 3 products: SCEnAT, SCEnAT+ and SCEnATi.
- SCEnAT is the core tool for decision-making support.
- SCEnAT+ includes benchmarking & life cycle costing capabilities.
- SCEnATi includes Microsoft Power BI (Business Intelligence) & big data analytics capabilities.
